Puracé Volcano Climb
|ask about the volcano daytrip >>>|
Nestled within the Kokonuco Indigenous Reserve of Puracé at a height of 4,650m (15,256ft), Volcan Puracé is still considered one of the most active in the area having errupted 17 times since 1948. Today, the Purace Volcano is easily identified due to it's dual vents which spit out sulphurous gas from just below the crater.
Climbing Puracé is not a technical climb although the altitute and changable climate can make it a hard slog to the top. On this trip, we offer transport to the base camp of the volcano at 4,050m where we meet and indigenous guide from the area who will acompany us to the 500m-wide crater. The trek itself should take around 3-5 hours. Warm/waterproof clothing and sun protection is essential and water, food, snacks and water should also be purchased in advance as there are no facilities available once the trip departs base camp. For those who do not have warm clothing, hats and gloves can be provided.
